Weekly Focus
In Reading and Writing workshops we will continue exploring the oo/oo sound (as in book and soon) and learning to segment and blend CVC words.
In Maths we will continue learning about collection data. For our final data collection we will find out our favourite character from the books we have studied so far this term.
Last week we read the story Ernie Dances to the Didgeridoo, by Pamela Allen. Ernie is a boy who moves to Arnhem Land for a year. He writes letters to his friends each season, describing the seasonal activities that he and his new friends enjoy. We will continue reading about Ernie to explore the seasons of Arnhem Land. The people of Arnhem Land recognise six seasons, which are indicated by changes in local animals and plants, rather than the date.
In history we are engaging with the oral traditions and paintings of Aboriginal Peoples to recognise that the past is communicated through stories passes down from generation to generation. We started with the story Tiddalik the Frog, which originated with the Aboriginal People of South Gippsland, Victoria.
