Sight Words
Could you please ensure to continually go over all the popcorn words, even ones that are marked as known, as children forget very quickly. I have noticed that many of the children are not recognising their sight words in their reading. Therefore, for the next few weeks we will retest the gold, red and blue words and if they are not known like ‘popcorn’ we will not test any further. Also, please remember to ask the words from the list out of order so that they are not just remembering the list order. Thank you for your cooperation.
Weekly Focus
In Reading and Writing workshops we will explore the th/th sound (as in the and feather) and learning to segment and blend CVC words.
In Maths we will read the story Rosie’s Walk, by Pat Hutchins and investigate the language of location to help give directions.
We will continue reading Ernie Dances to the Didgeridoo, by Pamela Allen and investigating the seasons of Arnhem Land.
In History we will read the Dreamtime story of Dunbi the Owl. The children will learn to retell the events of the story using a timeline.
