Term 4 Overview
Welcome back to Term Three! We hope you all had an enjoyable break and your children are looking forward to another productive term in Prep.
The organised curriculum for this term is as follows:
Religion
In Religion this term we will continue learning about Jesus' life as a Jew. We will explore the infancy stories in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew. The children will design Christmas cards to demonstrate the similarities and differences between the stories in both Gospels.
Science
After reading the story, ‘Who Sank the Boat?’, we will explore the way things move through floating and sinking. The children will then work collaboratively to design and create a boat. They will need to explore the properties of materials so that they can select the most appropriate materials.
Humanities and Social Sciences
We will explore family celebrations and the children will identify events in their own family that are important. The children will share with the class information about a special celebration that they have shared with their family.
In Geography, we will learn about the local Aboriginal community and identify why it is important to acknowledge their connection to this area.
English
We will be building the student’s oral language skills, developing phonological awareness, reading and comprehension skills and developing knowledge of letter sound relationships.
We will continue our Sight Word and Home Reader program this term. There is an expectation that your child should spend some time (10 min) each day completing these tasks with an adult.
Maths
In Mathematics, we will have a strong focus on numbers and will continue to recognise and represent numbers to 10. We will also be exploring various mathematical concepts, including measurement, addition and sharing.
